With the advent of World Wide Web, the world has become a smaller place and continues to do so. It is easier to stay in touch and remain updated with each others’ life. It has made the concept of writing letters and to an extent talking on phone sound obsolete. Web hosting and servers are two of the main concepts of the World Wide Web, sometimes used interchangeably.

What is web hosting?
Web hosting is a kind of service in the world of internet. In easier terms, when you want people across the world that browse internet, to see and access the content on your website, you upload it or publish it through the web hosting services. A web host is any company that rents out space on their servers and allows individuals and organizations to serve up their content. Web hosting and servers are thus very closely related.
Types of web hosting

Windows Dedicated Server is identified as the best hosting company as it is easy to use and offers complete customer satisfaction. It offers endless facilities to the user.

Dedicated Email Server helps a business owner to send emails to the customer efficiently.

There are various types of web hosting. A few of the more popular ones would be:
Shared web hosting: A shared web hosting is the most common and easiest to start out with. In shared hosting, there is a single server and many customers share it. It has many advantages and disadvantages. It is easier to use and cheaper to maintain but at the same time, since it is shared, the operation becomes less flexible and slow.

Virtual private servers: Abbreviated as VPS, it lies midway between shared web hosting and dedicated web hosting. The hardware component of a server is shared by many customers, but a virtualisation technology creates a partition in the server so as to dedicate each with its own resources.

Dedicated Hosting: This is the kind of web hosting where one entire server is dedicated to the personal use of customers. The advantage of this type of hosting is that it is very flexible in nature and fully under control of the customer but at the same time, it is very expensive.

What is a server?

To put it in very easy terms, a server is a physical device which is dedicated solely for customers of one network. To put in computing terminology, a server is a programme that runs to serve the request of other programmers. There are various types of servers based on the type of programmers that they support. Some of the most important ones are:

• Application Server- for software applications.
• Catalogue Server- for distributed network.
• Communication Server- for communication network.
• Database Server- Database services to other programmes or computers.

Web hosting and servers are closely related. Website content is published or hosted through a server which might be various types.
